Characterization of a Reactor Component Handling Site

Ameriphysics performed a MARSSIM-based characterization survey of a site in Oklahoma that was used briefly for a project involving the decontamination of nuclear fuel racks. The site was also used for the removal and thermal treatment of spent military rocket propellant. Ameriphysics utilized customer provided GPS scoping survey data to write the site’s Characterization Plan, prepare the site for characterization, conduct the necessary surveys and sampling, and write a detailed Characterization Report that recommended a path forward to bring the site into regulatory compliance.

Ameriphysics Awarded Decontamination and Decommissioning Project at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System’s Nashville Campus

May 31, 2013 – The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System provides high quality healthcare for our nation’s veterans. Decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) activities including characterization, waste disposal, and MARSSIM-based final status survey will be accomplished in an 11,000 ft3 research wing on the 3rd floor of the facility. Structural surfaces, fume hoods, countertops, drains, and ventilation systems, many of which contain asbestos, will be evaluated and remediated as required to satisfy VA promulgated release criteria. The project was awarded to Ameriphysics primarily based on the quality of previous work we performed at the facility.

Ameriphysics Completes $6.3M Cyclotron Decontamination and Decommissioning Project

June 7, 2013 – Ameriphysics characterized, removed, and disposed of a 50 ton, 30 MeV IBA Cyclone 30 cyclotron and ancillary support equipment, two cyclotron vaults, four target vaults, four hot cells, and three fume hoods. This decontamination and decommissioning project was completely designed, managed, and executed by Ameriphysics and required removal and disposal of more than 12 million pounds of low-level radioactive waste. Ameriphysics wrote and implemented the site’s MARSSIM-based final status survey plan and developed release criteria using modeling codes including RESRAD and MicroShield.
